This was a first for me. The client didn't want to move their existing domain name to another web hosting company because of the risks attached to having to move numerous email addresses. Their existing IT supplier said that it was possible to point the domain to the IP address of the new site on new hosting so this project became my first attempt to make this work.

I could see this working for a static website but I hardly ever build a static site these days. All my sites have content management with an Admin page, even the most basic ones. My main concerns were:

  1. Would I be able to register the CMS software to the domain in this scenario?
  2. Would moving existing blog posts work? Would I be able to reconnect the blog posts create on my test site to the blog list page?
  3. Would I have to wait maybe 2 or 3 days after the IP addresses had been changed before I could actually see the new site.
