Since buying a new MacBook Pro M1 16 inch 2021 I have seen numerous occasions when an annoying message pops up saying that I haven't ejected my external disk properly.

I am using a Lacie 5TB SSD external disk which I have partitioned so that 3TB is used for videos and 2TB for Time Machine backups. As the Lacie 5TB drive came with an old style USB connector I bought an adapter to plug into the Thunderbolt/USB4 ports on my new Mac.

Since first plugging the drive into my new M1 Mac I have occasionally seen the 'Disk not ejected properly' messages. In the worst-case scenario I get dozens of messages popping up down the right side of the screen. Ejecting the drive and plugging it in again after rebooting fixed it for a while but it always seemed to come back again.

Here are the steps I have gone through to try and fix the issue.
