Replicating a layout seen on the Procopio website again - this time in Splider 2 from Shaking the Habitual.
Pros of using Splider 2
Slides show on mobile and tablet. content links and buttons work and do not interfere with scrolling down the page. Buttons work well though the set up is slightly different to MB3 I quite like the progress bar that can be switched on and appears under each slide to show when it will fade to the next one.
Cons
Slides do not Autoplay on mobile like they do in Moving Box 3. The Autoplay doesn't seem to be working on the prouct page for that section either so I don't think its anything I've done. On desktop autoplay works well.
I have switched off Autoplay on both templates as I realise that the Procopio site doesn't use Autoplay so its layout relies on the user to touch the buttons to progress through the slides.
Conclusion.
Slider autoplay on my phone not working is not a serious disadvantage in my opinion and it may be something that Stuart can fix.
A bonus for Splider 2 is its performance advantage over MB3. However this is based on one single test for each page in Page Speed Insights.
Update 22nd Nov 23 - Stuart at Shaking the Habitual, when I asked him why his Splider2 slider wasn't Autoplaying on mobile he said to check my iPhone because the settings were probably preventing it. I did and he was right. Settings>Accessibilty>Motion>Reduce Motion was set to on. As soon as I turned this off the Splider 2 demo on the next template started to auto scroll horizontally. Here is a link to the Moving Box 3 equivalent of this page: MB3 demo
Note both the MB3 and Splider 2 template pages currently have the equivalent of Autoplay set on so that they scroll horizontally automatically.
When Maggie at the local coffee shop asked me what I had been doing today and I showed her she said she preferred to not have auto scroll on because she often didn't have time to read what was on the page before it had vanished. She preferred the idea of having the control buttons. Indeed the Procopio site which started me off down this track also does not auto scroll so it might be best not to use this feature when there is embedded text in the banner, or to set it to a really long interval.
